Game of Thrones Embroidery
I’m new to being a pop-culture nerd. Growing up, I never was a fan of anything much, except sewing. And I always felt like I was missing out by not participating in culture.
But Game of Thrones is different. Along with 17 million other obsessed people, I’ve looked forward to the new episodes each week. And even more, the character of Daenerys Targaryen the Queen of Dragons has redefined for me what it means to be a strong woman.
If you’re not familiar with the show, Dany wasn’t always the Queen of Dragons. She began as a timid girl, sold into marriage by her abusive brother. But she chose to face her life with strength and carve her own path. With her inability to be burned by fire and her three dragon “children,” she grew to be an imposing and conquering queen.
So with the final season starting, I had to participate in the best way I know how — by making something. Armed with reference pictures from Google searches and a box of embroidery threads, I stitched these up.
While you take a look, I’ll let you wonder how far my obsession runs. Is that real blood splattered on my wall? How understanding will the landlord be if I explain it was for a Game of Thrones project?
